Adventures in Apologetics: Incest In The Bible

"What about all the incest in the Bible? Especially in Genesis?"

This is a common objection you will hear from "cut and paste Atheists" that seem to troll around the web. What they don't seem to realize is how self-defeating that question is to there worldview.

How is it self-defeating?
Well, in the Atheist (Agnostic/Secular Humanist etc..) worldview, there is no room for absolute statements without contradictions.

In other worlds, everything is relative in there worldview. For example, an unbelieving person can not say "murder is wrong" because by doing so they admit in moral absolutes, which are inconsistent with there worldview but consistent with the Theist worldview.

They have to say, "Nothing is 'morally wrong', it's all relative to the person."

So, now to address the "incest issue" in two ways.

1) No Atheist, in there worldview, can accuse the incest in the Bible of being wrong without proving what the Bible has said along, "Men know God exists and are just suppressing the Truth in there unrighteousness" (Romans 1:18-20)

2) In the 4 cases of the alleged "incest" in Genesis (and on time of Exodus 6) came before God gave His moral on Mount Senai. It wasn't until Leviticus 18:6 this is addressed when the Word says,  “‘No one is to approach any close relative to have sexual relations. I am the Lord."
So it was not incest until God, who defines morality, declared it so.

Why would God have waited? Many, including me, believe it was because God, in His Omniscience, knew what needed to happen to populate the world and that by the days of Moses, incest would cause problems with the genetics in humans.

While, there is only one case of incest post giving of Law. One could not use this as a defense. Just read the case of Amnon and Tamar in 2 Samuel 13. Amnon's acts are disgraced (22), and eventually judgement for breaking God's Moral Law is brought upon him in the same chapter.

Now this brings me too the true point of this. Nonbeliever, Atheists, agnostic, whatever you call yourself, you know God exists. You know it's wrong to murder, to steal, to commit incest, because God has written it on your heart. (Romans 2:15) Your worldview just isn't practical. God is going to judge you on judgement Day based on His Holy Moral Law, which sees hatred as murder (1 John 3:15) and lust as adultery (Matthew 5:27-30), and whether you claim to believe in Him or not, deep down inside you know all you are doing is suppressing the Truth as Romans 1:20 says.

On Judgement Day you will be found guilty of breaking God's Law, you will be a prison in His eyes and He will cast into a horrible.

But, I tell you all of this out of love.  I don't want this to happen to you and neither does God.  God loves you even more then I do and the Bible says that God is rich in mercy, and has great love for us. (Ephesians 2:4)

God made a way of salvation for you too be taken from your current dead, hopeless, condemned state before God, and be saved and be born again right before Him!

He did by sending Himself in the form of Jesus Christ to live a sinless life, then suffer, bleed, and die on the Cross, 2000 years ago for the sin of the world. Then He rose again three days later to forever conquer sin, death and Hell. Jesus bore the wrath of God due our sins on the Cross, but those who receive His salvation receive His perfect, blameless record before God. (2 Corinthians 5:21)

This is the gift of salvation. Like any gift though, you must receive it.

You can receive it by turning from your sins (Acts 17:31, Psalm 51) and Trust in work of Jesus alone for your salvation (John 3:16).

From there God will transform your heart and give you a new one, with a His Spirit inside you and He will give you new life! (Ephesians 2:1-10)

"For anyone who is in Christ is a new creation, the old has gone, the new has come!" - 2 Corinthians 5:17

What will you say on Judgement Day when you stand before a Holy God? I pray God will grant you repentance and faith and will sing on that glorious day,

" Nothing in my hand I bring, simply to the cross I cling; naked, come to thee for dress; helpless, look to thee for grace;foul, I to the fountain fly;wash me, Savior, or I die"
