“Perfect Theology- A Passion For The Impossible Pursuit”

Add caption
What this post ventures to answer:

What is perfect theology?

Does it exist?

How, if it exists, can one reach it?

And how is one suppose to achieve this perfect level of theology, if it in fact, can be reached?

Let's begin with the two questions that all the others hinge on.

What is perfect theology?

Perfect theology, in this post anyway, is refering to anyone having a 100% correct view of God.

Let's get one thing straight, this has nothing to do with supporting universalism. Read on and I will explain further.

Does perfect theology exists?

For an earthly man, perfect theology is impossible.

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
neither are your ways my ways,”
declares the LORD.

“As the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways
and my thoughts than your thoughts
. ~Isaiah 55:8-9

There are many aspects of God's character and who God is, that can be clearly understood. God has made Himself known to all (Romans 1:19-20) through Creation, His Word (the one and only Bible, along with clear and correct teaching of His Word), and ultimately through the Person of Jesus Christ (John 1).

For Jesus, being One of the Persons in the Trinity, has a perfect understanding of who God is, being that He was God in the flesh.

Perfect theology is also available in Heaven, when those who have repented of there sins and put there Trust in Jesus (for more on this see the side bar) will stand face to face with God and all will be full known (1 Cor. 13:8-13).

So, this brings me back to the title of this post.

Perfect theology is "A Passion For The Impossible Pursuit."

We've already broken down the middle of the phrase.

Perfect Theology is impossible this side of Heaven.

But, this brings us to the rest of the phrase. Why should it be our passion, and how do we pursue it?

Perfect theology should be our passion.

There are three main thoughts coming into this.

1) We are meant, as Christians, to desire to know God. Jesus made that clear in John 17:3 by saying that "knowing God was eternal life"

2) We are meant to love and have a passion God's Word. The Psalmist wrote in Psalm 119:97 "Oh, how I love your law! I meditate on it all day long."

3) Pray that God may open up the Scriptures to you. He will answer you and give you His Spirit. (Luke 24:45-49). Though, like I mentioned above, not ever question we have above God can be answered this side of Heaven. The Bible gives us everything we need to know about God and how to be reconciled to Him, not everything we want to know.

Perfect theology should be pursued.

God has given us one main way to do this.

Through His Word.

The law of the LORD is perfect,
refreshing the soul.
The statutes of the LORD are trustworthy,
making wise the simple.

The precepts of the LORD are right,
giving joy to the heart.
The commands of the LORD are radiant,
giving light to the eyes.
The fear of the LORD is pure,
enduring forever.
The decrees of the LORD are firm,
and all of them are righteous.

They are more precious than gold,
than much pure gold;
they are sweeter than honey,
than honey from the honeycomb.
~Psalm 19:7-10

His Word is the Only true Revelation to who God is in the world today.

2 Timothy 3:14-17

But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it, and how from infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

So, whats my point?

I write this two purposes, to unify the Bride of Christ and to give a warning*. Whether you are Calvinist or Armenian, Charismatic or a cessationist, Southern Baptist or Catholic, let's remind ourselves who we are. We are ALL the Church. Every born again believer in Jesus Christ is a part of the church. Praise God that theology doesn't save, but repentance and faith in Christ does. Let's remember that job we've been given (Mark 16:15), the honor it is to carry it out, and Whom in which we serve.

Paul wrote this:

...if I am delayed, you will know how people ought to conduct themselves in God’s household, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and foundation of the truth. Beyond all question, the mystery from which true godliness springs is great:

He appeared in the flesh,
was vindicated by the Spirit,
was seen by angels,
was preached among the nations,
was believed on in the world,
was taken up in glory.
~1 Timothy 3:15-16

So, for the sake of the Gospel, let's get along Church and unite with one purpose, to reach this lost would with the Radical life changing Gospel.

* I write this warning as somewhat of a P.S. to the above note to the Church. Beware of false teachers, they are wolves in sheep's clothing. Those who have hold to the prosperity Gospel, non-trinitarians, those who claim that one does not need to be born again, universalists, or any other false teachings that directly undermine Scripture and it's authority over our lives. We need to lovingly correct these teachers and then separate ourselves from them. God called His people to be separate, and each false teacher will face God in judgement like we all will. We should pray for these men, women, and there followers.  (2 Peter 2)

To God be the glory!
God Bless!
